Opinion on School Dress Codes
Dress Codes are mainly enforced on girls, forbidding leggings or tank tops. They say we distract the boys. But schools are reinforcing the idea that girls are objects and we need to avoid unwanted attention. Well, I don’t think it’s fair that men can wear anything, and we have to be cautious about what we wear. In Staten Island over 200 girls received detention because they were wearing shorts that were too short. But parents are complaining because there is no air conditioning in the rooms. Maybe instead of restricting girls, we need to teach the guys to respect women regardless of what we’re wearing.

Texting and Driving
Since 2011 23% of car accidents involved a cell phone, making texting and driving the leading cause of car accidents. When you text and drive, it is the equivalent to being blind for 5 seconds. You are nearly three times more likely to crash while dialing a number and nearly twice as likely to crash while reaching for your phone. Over 77% of teens have admitted that they think they can text and drive safely. Teens aren’t the only one to blame, adults are also admitting to it. 48% of kids between the ages of 12-17 have been in the car while the driver was texting or talking on the phone. There have been many cases where the phone user isn’t injured but their victim ends up critically injured. In response to the rising crisis, companies have set out to create ways to stop texting and driving. They have created a mobile app that will disable text mode. With fewer drivers texting and more focusing on driving, insurance companies and law enforcement hope to bring down the percentage of car accidents that result from using a phone while driving.
